1 Trick For Defining Your Business Goals

April 25, 2018 by Lindsay Teague Moreno Leave a Comment

Anywhere you look, there’s someone telling you to set goals for you business, but defining them isn’t always easy. Or is it?

What if there was a trick that would help you define and measure your goals, and even motivate you to achieve them?

It’s time to get SMART!

Maybe you’ve heard of setting SMART goals, but haven’t put them into action. Or if you have, it hasn’t been for long enough to make a difference.

Let’s change that. The SMART goals method is your ticket to achieving more.

Here’s a breakdown of what all this means:

S is for SPECIFIC: You need to dial down and spell out exactly what your goal is. For example, one of your goals might be to build up your email list, but that’s not specific. You need to answer the WHO, WHAT, WHY, and WHEN first in order to find out what’s required to achieve this goal. Who are you targeting to get on your email list? What will you do to get them? Why do you want to build the list? When does this need to take place? A specific goal would be that you want to build your email list giving away free PDFs, in order to build a potential customer base for your next product launch.

M is for MEASURABLE: How will you measure building your email list? Maybe you want to increase the overall number by 20% in the next 3 months. This is pretty easy to set once you’ve got a specific goal.

A is for ATTAINABLE: So now you know you want a 20% increase in your email list in the next 3 months. Is that attainable for you? Take a minute to compare this goal to your previous performance and see if you need to scale it back a little. You might even need to increase it. The point is that we want to achieve these goals so stretch, but don’t reach so far that you’ll never achieve it in that set time.

R is for RELEVANT: Let’s say want to build up your email list, but you don’t even have a website yet. Would this goal move your business further or do you need to work on the website first? Make sure your goal is relevant to your growth right now.

T is for TIME BOUND: This is one of the most important parts so listen up! You must give yourself a deadline on this goal. Give yourself a due date and stick to it!

Seems doable, right? You can totally do this!

The next step is to set up an action plan – stay tuned for that post.

5 More Ways To Practice Self Care For The Busy Momtrepreneur

April 9, 2018 by Lindsay Teague Moreno 1 Comment

Last week I wrote a post giving five ways a busy momtrepreneur can practice self care.

You can read it here: 5 Ways To Practice Self Care For The Busy Momtrepreneur.

Self care is super important when you’re running a business and raising a family.

I don’t think it’s talked about or practiced enough so I wanted to touch on this again.

Here are five MORE quick and easy ways to get self care.

  1. Stretch: You can stretch your body almost anywhere. If you’re at home, take 10-15 minutes to move through different parts of your body. If you’re out you can raise your arm over your head and take a few breaths. Switch arms and repeat. You will feel better instantly and this doesn’t take a lot of time.
  2. Write down how you’re feeling: This is a quick way to disengage from your emotions so they don’t affect your work. When bad days happen just recognize them, write down your feelings and let it go. Don’t make this super involved – a few lines will do.
  3. Change it up: Sometimes just adding a new dinner to the rotation or trying a new walking route is enough to break that autopilot feeling we get stuck in. Of course, you can go big and change your hair color or get a new lipstick too!
  4. Declutter one space: Pick an area of your house and get rid of a few things. Clean up and put things where they belong. For me this always starts in my office. A clean workspace is a great way to feel ready to work.
  5. Write your Monday to-do list on Sunday: I know this sounds like more work, but it feels good because as soon as you get your Monday on paper, you can forget about it and enjoy your Sunday.

I’d love to hear how you felt after trying these!

3 Ways To Make Social Media More Social

April 5, 2018 by Lindsay Teague Moreno 4 Comments

If you’re like me, you’re trying to make your social media more ummmm social.

You know, where it’s actually fun again!

With all the algorithms and paid content and everything else to confuse us, social media can be kind of draining.

Especially when you aren’t getting the results you want.

Let’s talk about three easy ways you can make social media more social. And more fun!

  1. Get personal in your stories: I love the stories feature on Instagram and Facebook and I use them regularly. It’s a great way to show more of your life and really dig in with your audience. Be vulnerable. Talk about the bad and the good. Share struggles that your target audience can relate to. Ask for advice. In my opinion, this is one of the best ways for your audience to get to know the real you. The one that exists outside of staged photos and curated newsfeeds.
  2. Do more videos: I think videos are going to become even more popular on social media this year. I also think it’s a great way to get personal with your audience. There is no better way to feel like someone is talking to you than a video. I think live videos are extra good because you can interact real time. Just make sure you are talking on stuff that makes your audience want to comment.
  3. Interact, interact, interact: Do you make a post and then shut your Instagram app? Or maybe you’ve got it set to auto-post and you don’t know when it’s happening? STOP THAT! With the latest algorithm, it’s decided within the first 30 minutes whether to keep pushing your post out or let it get buried. The more interaction you have within that time, the better! Commit to posting and then sticking around for 10-20 minutes after to like and reply to comments. Since you’re trying to get comments to help, you need to be posting stuff that is relatable and elicits some response from your audience too.

Give these a try and see what you think!

5 Ways To Practice Self Care For The Busy Momtrepreneur

April 2, 2018 by Lindsay Teague Moreno Leave a Comment

Listen, I know you’re rolling your eyes right now at the thought of incorporating self care into your day, but hear me out momtrepreneur!

I get you.

I can be the worst at this when I’m deep in a work project and trying to take care of my family and can’t remember the last time I washed my hair, let alone took a minute for myself.

Running yourself ragged.

The problem is, it catches up to you so you want to get self care in before burnout hits.

You need self care in your life. Even if you can only do the bare minimum. It’s something.

So, today I’m going to hit you with five quick and easy ways to get self care.

  1. Laugh out loud: Call a funny friend, watch a hilarious video, or let your kids rattle off knock-knock jokes. Laughter is the best medicine when it comes to a quick burst of happy!
  2. Audit your social media feeds: Are you following people who make you feel “less than?” It’s not them, it’s you and it’s time to unfollow. On the flip side you should look for new people to follow. Pick ones who you relate to and let them inspire you instead of dragging you down.
  3. Take deep breaths: This works and you can do it anywhere, including your desk when things get overwhelming. Close your eyes, if you can. Breathe in for 4 and out for 8. Repeat several times until you feel your body relaxing. Deep breathing is so good for clearing your mind and giving you space to think.
  4. Go for a 15 minute walk: Get out in your neighborhood or head to the mall when the weather isn’t nice. Anytime you can get some easy activity, you will feel a lot better.
  5. Turn off your phone: I know, I know…your phone is everything in your life right now, but 30 minutes here or there will make you feel a lot better. Try turning it off for the first 30 minutes you’re working or 30 minutes before you go to bed. Even 15-30 minutes at your lunch break will feel good after you get over the initial anxiety.

All pretty simple, right?

Pick one and try it this week. You deserve it!

How 5 Minutes Every Day Can Lead To Better Productivity

March 30, 2018 by Lindsay Teague Moreno 2 Comments

My inbox is filled with women wanting to know the magic solution to better productivity.

It’s no secret that momtrepreneurs have a lot to juggle.

  • business
  • kids
  • family life
  • managing a household
  • taking care of ourselves

It’s a never ending to-do list, amirite? The long list that’s pretty much impossible to get through feels overwhelming and it’s so easy to get paralyzed and shut down when there is too much on our plate.

The good news is, I’ve got an easy hack for you that will help you get better productivity out of your day!

And it only takes FIVE MINUTES a day!

  • At the end of every day I want you to spend 5 minutes getting ready for the next day.
  • Sit down with your Business Owner’s Weekly Productivity Pad and assess your to-do list for tomorrow.

You might find it works better for you to do this first thing in the morning and that’s fine. Whatever works for you is what you should do.

I find it’s better after the workday is done because stuff is fresh in my mind and ummm…I’m not a morning person so the less I have to do before I get down to work, the better for me!

(You can read more about why I suggest keeping your list to three things every day and how to best use your Productivity Pad here: My #1 Tip For Weekly Productivity.)

  • Once you’ve decided on the three tasks that need to get done tomorrow, it’s time to put them in priority order.

The important part here is prioritization.

It’s almost impossible to be efficient and productive without prioritizing your tasks. When you haven’t identified what’s the most urgent thing to be done it’s easy to get side-tracked with work that isn’t important right now.

You know the stuff that if left for later would make a negative impact on tomorrow? Yeah, those go first and second and third.  And don’t move on until you’re completely finished!

So that’s a pretty easy hack, right? Now for the difficult part.

You need to be consistent and do this every single day if you want to find better productivity. If you do this daily, you’re going to check a lot more things off your list and feel less overwhelmed. Promise!

But because I know it takes time to get into good habits, I’m challenging you to do this 2x week for at least 3 weeks and then add another day and so on.

I know you can do it!

3 Ways To Handle Rejection In Sales

March 28, 2018 by Lindsay Teague Moreno Leave a Comment

If you’ve been in sales for any length of time you’ve heard it all.

  • “No, thanks.”
  • “Maybe another time.”
  • “I can’t afford it right now.”

Rejection.

It stings.

Nobody likes rejection, but it’s a fact of business.

The good news is, with some simple strategies you can learn to take rejection in stride and even use to help you.

  1. Learn from your experience: You can let rejection eat you up or you can turn it into something useful. If you want to make the best of it then it’s time to turn inward and see if there is anything you can change in order to get a yes next time. Sometimes a no is just a no, but a lot of times it can mean something else and that’s where we need to work on our approach.
  2. Improve your process: Is there a part of the sales process you struggle with and think you need to improve? Maybe you’re really good at pitching, but you can’t close a sale. Maybe you can close, but you can’t work up the courage to talk about your product. The good news is these are all learned skills so think of this as a challenge and get the help you need to improve.
  3. Be better than you competitor: This might sound obvious, but can you think of some way to set yourself apart from the competition? This is usually done best through customer service. You might be faster at answering messages or better at educating or consistent with sending customer gifts. Whatever it is, highlight that. Let your prospects know what they’re going to get from you! If you don’t have something in place, think about what you’re good at and start doing it consistently.

The most important thing I want to say about rejection is that you can’t let it stop you or slow you down.

You’ve got to keep going. Even if that means you have room for improvement – most people do.

You absolutely won’t get to your goal by quitting so don’t even think about it!
