How 1 Simple Decision Can Change Your Life

February 26, 2018 by Lindsay Teague Moreno 2 Comments

“You’re always one decision away from a totally different life.” -Mark Batterson

If you don’t like how things are going for you right now, you need to make a decision and then take action.

It doesn’t matter what’s happened in your past.

It doesn’t matter how many times you’ve failed.

Or started over.

Or tried again.

It doesn’t matter how many times you wanted to quit.

At any moment you can decide to make a change.

The path you are on right now does not have to be the path you stay on forever.

And don’t think it needs to be a big, huge decision either.

Don’t let yourself get caught up in making this harder than it has to be.

A little step forward is just that.

Little actions add up to big achievements.

Today you can make the decision to:

  • Read a book instead of zoning out in front of the TV.
  • Start learning that new skill you’ve been meaning to get to.
  • Get back on your exercise plan.
  • Write down your goals and give them life.
  • Be more loving to the important people in your life.
  • Make an extra move in your business.

Get out there and make your one decision today and put into action.

XO,

My #1 Tip For Weekly Productivity

February 15, 2018 by Lindsay Teague Moreno 4 Comments

Last year I made a weekly productivity pad to help me stay on track with my goals and never ending to-do list.

I tweaked it throughout the year and built it around what worked best for me, but also what I thought momtrepreneurs were needing in their business.

Enter the Business Owners Weekly Productivity Pad!

I partnered with With A Twist Boutique to have it printed in a pad and it turned out so good. We’ve already sold through a couple of runs and they just got another printing in.

You need this in your life. Besides the fact that it’s just cute and so fun to look at. Hello rainbow happiness!

It’s the one planner-type thing that I’ve been able to use consistently and see results from.

Ok, let’s go through the sections:

BLUE:

After you write the date take a minute to jot down how you want to make people feel this week.

I find this really important to do first and set the tone for what kind of value I’m going to provide.

Some things I’ve written down are:

  • “I want to make women feel capable.”
  • “I am going to make other moms feel worthy.”

Next you will choose the three most important things that you need to do this week.

Three might not seem like a lot, but trust me on this. If you try and do more you’re going to get overwhelmed.

GREEN:

This section is all about your must-do action plan.

You can see that it nests under your three must-do list items.

Underneath each one you will write all the actions you need to do in order to get that big important to-do finished.

As you go through the week you can fill in the bubble to show you’ve completed a task.

For example if you one of your to-do list items is: “launch website” you would write down tasks like “buy domain, create brand sheet, etc.”

LIME:

You might be tempted to skip this, but don’t.

Write down your affirming statement and look at it often. Say it out loud. Let it guide you through the week.

Some examples:

  • “I am a capable, smart, and kind person.”
  • “I have the ability to handle whatever comes my way.”
  • “I am energetic and enthusiastic. Confidence is in my nature.”

YELLOW:

In this section there are 5 spots to write down your current gratitude list.

Do it all at once or write them throughout the week. It’s up to you.

I have found so much improvement in acknowledging and writing down my gratitudes regularly.

This is a must-do!

ORANGE:

Pick a quote that will help guide you this week and write it down.

Here are a few that I love:

  • “The most effective way to do it, is to do it.”
  • “Are you trying to help, or are you trying to sell?”
  • “A failure is an event, never a person.”

RED:

The weekly norm tracker section is where you keep track of all the normal things you need to do.

Think of these as smaller goals. Habits you are working on that will make your week great, but don’t necessarily fit in the big section above.

Write them down along with the benefit you’ll have from doing them all week.

Fill in the bubbles as you go along to keep yourself accountable.

Some stuff I’ve had on mine recently:

  • Get in bed before 11pm. Benefit: Easier to wake up.
  • Post on social media 2x. Benefit: Consistency.

PINK:

Set a goal for how many notes and thoughtful gifts you want to send out to your customers this week.

Use the bubbles to track how many you’ve gotten done.

PURPLE:

At the end of the week you will fill out this section.

Make some notes about next week – things you need to do, what you want to improve, etc.

Write down a failure you had as well as the lesson you learned from it.

BOOM!

Why You Need To Start Your Business Before You’re Ready

February 13, 2018 by Lindsay Teague Moreno 1 Comment

Start before you’re ready. You’ve probably heard this before. Maybe it hasn’t sunk in yet so I’m going to say it again.

You need to start your business before you’re ready.

Most people don’t ever get to the start and I find that so, so, so sad!

Now, I know this sounds really scary. Especially if you’ve never owned a business before and maybe don’t even have corporate America experience.

Hear me out though. I’ve put together a few reasons why this is the best advice you’ll get for your business.

You can research and study all day long, but you need to go through actions to get experience.

Of course I’m not saying just jump into something blind. You need to know your product or service and a little bit about how to start a business. But, I can promise you that the additional research you’ve convinced yourself to do is just stalling.

It doesn’t matter how much you know, you’re going to screw some stuff up. Everyone does.

Which brings me to my next point.

Learning from your own mistakes is necessary.

You have to make mistakes and allow them to be your own business lessons. I think it’s great to learn things from other’s mistakes and avoid obvious traps, but remember what I said above about experience? You need your own.

You don’t need a ton to get started.

Here’s what you need just to get that start – a plan, a little money, some time and a lot of passion.

The rest is subjective. You can choose to jump all in or go slowly. It doesn’t matter.

JUST START.

There’s always going to be something in your business that you need to improve.

That’s a hard truth so you need to accept it and get over it fast.

You might not like your first website or logo and for sure you have stuff to learn, but that’s ok.

Think of your business as never being finished and always evolving.

The bottom line is, people who are successful don’t worry about knowing everything before they start.

They always start before they are ready. Always.

And so should you!

The Unicorn Craze Has Hit the Moreno House Hard

February 9, 2018 by Lindsay Teague Moreno Leave a Comment

You guys, I have to share the presents we got for the girls for Valentine’s Day this year because OH MY GOSH.

My kids are obsessed with unicorns…like any self-respecting 5-10 year old should be.

They are reading a book series called Unicorn School and I had to sit through the My Little Pony movie more than once and am a little ashamed to know the names of these creatures. “They’re only little once,” I just keep reminding myself as I fight to keep yet another Beanie Boo unicorn out of their rooms. So when I saw these blankets it was a yes for me.

I wish I would have recorded the reactions of Boston, Teagan & Kennedy when I pulled this little bit of magic out of the box.

A unicorn blanket? Are you kidding me? How can you not?

They think they are unicorns. And guys, to be honest, they’re not pretending as much as they used to so it has been pretty fun to watch.

Michael and I are going to be out of town on Valentine’s Day for some work, so we celebrated early with these little gifts for all 3 girls (also I’m trying to cut back on stuffed animals and candy…oy). This could not have been a bigger hit. They’re sleeping in/with this thing every night since they opened it up.

This product right here is why we need more female entrepreneurs to make awesome stuff. Machine washable? CHECK. Not going to fall apart in 3 seconds? CHECK. Colors my kids are going to want? CHECK. Totally unique. I’m so happy to support a fellow momtrepreneur in her business idea because her target market could not be bigger fans. So cute, Kate! The Morenos are fans.

If you guys have littles that dream unicorn dreams, you have to check out Born to Unicorn on Amazon. Also, Prime shipping on these bad boys because Jesus loves you.

Happy Valentine’s Day, Y’all!

XOXO,

How To Increase Productivity Right Now

February 2, 2018 by Lindsay Teague Moreno 4 Comments

It seems like we’re always chasing productivity. It’s February so the resolutions and goals for 2018 feel a little further away.

We’re busy, but are we really getting things done? That’s something I ask myself when I feel like I have too much to do.

Productivity is something that can be increased, but it takes some work.

Intention.

Focus.

Here are 4 ways you can increase your productivity starting today:

  1. Three: Write down three things that absolutely need to be done this week. You can pick more, but I find that 3 is the sweet spot. What are the things that will be a problem if you don’t finish them?
  2. Prioritize: Put these three things in a list by priority. If something needs to be done Tuesday and the others are due Friday, Tuesday goes to the top. This helps clarify what you need to be working on right now.
  3. Pause: Ignore your email and social media inbox until you’ve worked on these three things today. Inboxes can be a huge time suck and getting to them first tends to decrease energy. Save your energy for the important things and then tackle your inbox.
  4. Timer: Set a timer and work through it, uninterrupted, on a task. After the timer is up, take a break and then repeat this. It’s shown to be much more effective working in blocks of time and taking breaks. You might have to play with how long you can work and see what’s right for you.

Now, go crush your day!

XO,

Top 6 Mistakes Made By New Momtrepreneurs

January 31, 2018 by Lindsay Teague Moreno 1 Comment

New momtrepreneurs are always asking me what I would do differently if I could go back and start my business over again.

They want to know what mistakes I made so they can avoid them.

I think women can be our own worst enemy and even though we have a lot of motivation and vision, we end up doing things that could be avoided.

I’ve worked with a lot of new momtrepreneurs and I’ve noticed the same things tend to trip people up.

I made out a list because I believe avoiding these traps can get you to your goals faster.

Top 6 mistakes made by new momtrepreneurs:

  1. Starting without a plan.

Don’t get freaked out and think I’m saying you have to get a full blown business plan before starting. I’m not. BUT…you do need a plan. How many hours are you going to work? How will you market your business? What is your budget? What skills do you need to improve? Brainstorm, do your research, and write your plan down.

  2. Not being totally passionate about your idea.

I fully believe that if you’re not completely passionate about the product or service you are selling, you’re going to have a hard time reaching your goals. People need to trust you in order to buy from you and if you don’t have passion, they will see that. It’s also really, really hard to get through bad days if you’re not totally connected to passion. And, there will be bad days.

  3. Going it alone.

Most of us start our businesses alone because we can’t afford to hire people and that’s totally ok. You need a support system though. Even if you’re doing all the work, you need people there to help you by supporting and encouraging. Spouse, family, friends – bring them in on what you’re doing. It’s also a great idea to create a tribe of women who are doing the same thing as you. Support systems can be everything on those hard days.

  4. Copying everything you see.

There is a difference between looking to others for inspiration and outright copying their work. This goes for marketing material you create, words you write on social media, and anything else you think can be perceived as copying. Be inspired, but put your own twist on it. Your audience will know when you’re not being true to yourself too and that’s a big part of the trust relationship.

  5. Waiting until everything is “perfect.”

Let me say this loud – THERE IS NO PERFECT TIME. You will not wake up one day and think “hmmm, it’s a great day to start a business because all my fears and doubts have gone away!” Seriously. Start with what you have now and work for the rest.

  6. Not starting right now.

The perfect time doesn’t exists so, what are you waiting for? One of the biggest regrets I hear from women is not having started earlier. Fear and doubt held them back and while that’s valid, you need to kick it to the curb. START NOW. Right now.

I’d love to hear about any mistakes you made in the beginning and how you would do it differently now.
